Counseling Programs
Hearing loss is a complex problem. Helping a patient cope with hearing loss is not as easy as simply fitting him or her with a hearing aid. If it were, no one would ever leave his or her hearing aids in the drawer. Frequently there is damage in the auditory system that is only partially correctable with hearing aids. In addition, most patients wrestle with issues of self-image, depression, isolation, loss of control, and a feeling of being uninformed about their hearing loss.
At the Hearing and Speech Institute, we feel that a majority of patients need more counseling and education than we can provide in short clinical sessions and that support from other hearing aid users can be beneficial.
